![]() The most illuminating image of dot gain I've found is this simulation of dot gain in a newspaper. I already understood that my enemy was likely dot gain (and to some extent CMYK), but only armed with my new vocabulary am I now starting to understand how to compensate, anticiapte and correct. There is a lot of power in a word and channelled through google "unsharp mask" has given me a lot of new knowledge.Įspecially Sharpening 101 and Unsharp Mask Unveiled helped a lot. Again, can I just increase the brightness or are there any better tricks to ensure this looks like the lulu version? ![]() Now, I'm happy with how the cover has turned out, but I had a black rock pattern across part of the back and that is so dark you can't really make out the pattern at all. I've been reading about this for hours, and I'm not afraid to experiment, but I know very little in this area so any pointers would be appreciated to get me going in the right direction.Īlso, I know lightning source uses CMYK for the cover, but the tutorial/guide offered by RPGNow is very clear that you should save the cover as RGB. So can I just turn up the brightness? Do I turn the contrast up/down or something else entirely? Also, simpler black and white drawings - like the character sheets - look just fine. The professionally commissioned grayscales all look too dark - like the brightness was turned too low and the contrast too high. I don't see any way of changing how the PDF is exported from open office, so I presume I'll need to adjust the images before inserting them. Anyone can help me with how to do this? I'm doing everything open source so I've been using Open Office to generate the PDF and I typically use to manipulate the artwork (although I could try using Gimp if that is the only way). I've read in several places that I might have to change the book/images to greyscale with dot gain 20%. ![]() I should point out that this artwork looked very good in the lulu version. Unfortunately my very limited knowledge means that the interior grayscale artwork does not look as good - much too dark. Ok, just got the proof from DriveThruRPG/RPGNow's POD through lightning source and the print quality of the text is awesome.
